This event is focused on intimate partner violence (IPV) and coercive and controlling behaviours and is by invitation only. We very much appreciate your expertise and experience in this area. We are hopeful you will be available to participate, recognizing that your time is in high demand.

Our goal is to build awareness on current risk assessment research and learn about challenges faced, to better support the work of those in victim services, shelters and police services. A key focus is enhancing capacity for a culturally responsive approach to the work we do to capture relevant information about risk of future harm and applying that knowledge in our case management.

This work is a first step in community services and expert consultations. What is shared during this day event will be summarized and made available to you and your organization.

This event is funded through a Victim Support Grant. The partners in this grant are the Barrie Native Friendship Centre, the Chiefs of Ontario, the Ontario Provincial Police and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.

In the morning of the event, there will be a presentation on ongoing research examining risk assessment in intimate partner violence research, as well as an overview from the Chiefs of Ontario about their new indigenous focused intimate partner risk tool (RADAT). We will also hear from front-line support services and a survivor of IPV and human trafficking about their experience with risk management.

In the afternoon, attendees will break into focus groups to identify the challenges they experience or foresee in building capacity for a culturally responsive approach to coercive control and IPV risk assessment and address questions around overcoming challenges.
